Mamy Graduates!

Ok, so this has been a loooong time coming. Even though I defended my dissertation in September, '09 and I "graduated" in December, UT only does the graduation ceremony once per year. So, despite originally not being interested in participating in the ceremony, I changed my mind. After all, how many chances do you get to attend your doctoral graduation? :)

So we had a bunch of family come in from out of town for the celebration! We all went to the ceremony and afterward we had a party at our house. We grilled burgers and had a good time! Here are the pics:

Happy Mother's Day!

Mother's Day was a holiday I both was looking forward to and dreading all at once. It was a very bittersweet day for me because it was my first as a mom, but it was also the first without my mom. But when the day came, all I had to do was look into Miya's little face to make it all ok!

That morning I enjoyed brunch with "the girls" while Will and "the boys" watched Miya and Wyatt. Later that evening we enjoyed a family dinner at home. It was a wonderful day!

Two Months Old

May 2- Miya turns two months old.

One milestone I wanted to share is that Miya just started to make some vowel sounds! I thought I'd heard her making some sounds, but nothing very distinct. But on Monday, May 1st she really started to make an "ah-ooo" sort of sound. It happened first thing in the morning while she was lying on her changing table. It was super cute! So now it's become our habit to spend some time "chatting" when I'm changing her diaper in the morning :)

The other thing that's been happening is that Miya is getting stronger and stronger! The nickname "limp noodle" does not really apply to her anymore! She's got way more control of her head, although it still wobbles around a little.

Miya is also getting way more interested in faces and will briefly look at us now. She hasn't quite gotten the smiling thing down yet, but I'm sure we'll get there!

Here are pictures of Miya at exactly 2 months:

A day in the garden!

On April 26, during daddy's day off, we decided to go to the Zilker Botanical Garden. It was a very nice day and we were able to get some nice pictures of our little family. Miya definitely loves the outdoors!
