Fun at the gym and with tummy time!

During the month of April we really started to see Miya lift her head a lot more than she used to during tummy time. So we thought it was a good time break out her super cool play gym that her cousins Keko and Becky gave her. It plays music and is very colorful and fun for her- when she's on her back. She still pretty much hates tummy time! I think she tolerates it like 4 minutes and then starts to whine until she eventually really cries. But when she's on her back she really does have fun. We do some little dance moves and sing together. She also likes looking at herself in the mirror that comes with the play gym.

BBQ at the Salt Lick

April 17: Nothing much to write about here, other than the fact that we took Miya on a little trip to have some BBQ at the Salt Lick. We were there with some friends, including Miya's favorite companion, Wyatt. It was his 2 month birthday!

Although Miya does not yet have an appreciation for barbecue, we are going to make sure she gets the earliest start possible in embracing her Texas barbecue roots! (Let's just ignore the fact that Miya slept pretty much through the whole thing!).

Spring in Central Texas= Bluebonnets!

April 12: After a long trip and some much needed time with family, our mini family made it back to Austin. The first thing we wanted to do was get Miya out to see some bluebonnets! So on Monday morning, we packed up our diaper bag and headed to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. The weather was beautiful that day! Here are some of our favorite shots.We can't wait to keep up this family tradition year after year! Enjoy!

Saying Goodbye to Guelita Lupita

April 5: Easter Sunday really was a miraculous day for our family. On that Sunday, my mom was doing really well. She had been hospitalized in the ICU for several days, with a lot of ups and downs, like I said before. But on Sunday, she was completely off the machines that were helping her breathe. She was sitting up and talking and joking with all of us. On that day, she got to see every last one of her 11 kids, and many of her 18 grand kids. She was well enough to set all her earthly business in order, and for that we are grateful. And as she was saying her goodbyes, she even had words for Miya. That was very special for me to hear.

Celebrating Easter- April 3-4

A few days before Easter, guelita Lupita got sick and had to go to the hospital. She seemed to be doing ok, with lots of ups and downs over the days. But on Saturday and Sunday, guelita Lupita was doing really well and we were all in good spirits and in the mood to celebrate.

On Saturday, we took some time to make cascarones, which are colorful, confetti-filled egg shells. Rocio, Jackie, Will and I spent a good part of the afternoon dyeing and filling out the cascarones. Will and I had also prepared baskets for Miya, Rocio and Jackie. These are some of the pictures of us and our creations:

Then on Easter Sunday we had the egg hunt! But this is a lot more fun than a traditional egg hunt because we get to then crack all the cascarones on each other's heads. We had also hidden a couple of "golden" eggs with some cash it them :) These are some pictures of the hunt and the ensuing fun cracking the eggs.
